Former Test captain Ravi Shastri was appointed chairman of the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy at the Board of Control for Cricket in India's 78th Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on Friday.

However, the player-turned television commentator sought "a day or two" to get back to the BCCI and commit himself to the high-profile post after looking into his commitments, BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan said ater the meeting.

"Shastri has agreed in principle to take over as NCA chairman but has said he would get back to the board after seeing into his commitments," said Srinivasan.

Srinivasan also formally announced that the AGM elected Vidarbha's Shashank Manohar as president-elect. He will take over as the Board's 29th president at next September's AGM.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, however, said no interim president has been decided upon to take over from incumbent Sharad Pawar, who chaired Friday's meeting, when he quits office in June to move over to the International Cricket Counil as its president.

Shah's statement refuted reports in the media that Baroda Cricket Association's Chirayu Amin will be the interim president of the BCCI from the time Pawar quits and Manohar assumes office.

Various committees were appointed at the AGM, including the all-powerful working committee, barring the senior and junior selection committees, which continue from last year with Dilip Vengsarkar and Sanjeev Sharma heading them.

Srinivasan said for the first time a women's committee, headed by president-elect Manohar, and selection committee, with Anju Jain at the helm, has been formed.

The BCCI's Annual Report, distributed for the first time to the media in its long history, also mentioned that the allotment for women's cricket has been increased to Rs 7 crore next year from Rs 3.6 crore for this fiscal.

Barring some changes in some sub-committees, most of them remain the same, Srinivasan said.

The Working Committee has seen some changes because of the rotation system being followed for constituting this committee.

It has representatives of the five permanent Test staging centres, Karnataka, Punjab, Gujarat and Vidarbha, who have held Tests last season, and five other associations by rotation, according to Srinivasan.

Asked whether Shastri would be able to devote time to the job of NCA chairman, Srinivasan said it is not a full-time job and he would have others like Shivlal Yadav, former Test off-spinner, as coaches director, vice-chairman Ajay Shirke and a full-time manager to assist him.

The post was filled temporarily by Maharashtra's Shirke following the removal of former India captain Kapil Dev after he associated himself with the rebel Indian Cricket League, which is not recognised by the BCCI.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar continues at the helm of the Technical Committee, which also includes chief selector Vengsarkar as one of its panelists along with another ex-Test cricketer Yashpal Sharma and former umpire V K Ramaswamy.
