Shoaib Akhtar discharged from hospital

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar [ Images ], who was hospitalised with chest infection, was be discharged on Wednesday evening.

Shoaib, who was running high temperature, was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles hospital in Kolkata [ Images ], on Tuesday, where he was diagnosed with chest infection.

The Pakistani pacer was assessed by attending doctor Shyamasish Banerjee before being discharged, hospital authorities confirmed.

"He has been advised a night's rest and to continue with the medicines. He can gradually start normal activities from tomorrow," said Banerjee, visibly satisfied with Shoaib's progress.

Misbah-ul Haq and Mohammad Sami [ Images ] are also stable now, confirmed Pakistan media manager Ehsan Malik.

But Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik [ Images ], who sprained his ankle during a practice session after the first Test in Delhi [ Images ], hasn't recovered fully and will take part only in a light practice session at the Eden Gardens.

Both Malik and Misbah also had check-ups at the hospital before returning to the team hotel on Tuesday.
