India discard Irfan Pathan roared back to form in emphatic fashion as he and Rakesh Patel rocked Mumbai in their second innings on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy Elite group semi-final against Baroda, in Baroda, on Wednesday.

Pathan and Patel reduced Mumbai to a catastrophic none for five before Vinayak Samant's half century bailed the visitors out.

Samant's unbeaten 51 then helped Mumbai bounce from the early calamity and end the day at 109 for 7, an overall lead of 200 runs.

Five of Mumbai batsmen went for ducks as the scoreboard of the 36-time Ranji winners read 0 for five in 3.2 overs.

Pathan dismissed Sahil Kukreja, caught by Rajesh Pawar, with the fourth ball of the first over.

Patel then had Wasim Jaffer caught behind in his next over before Pathan struck twice in his following over, having Hiken Shah was caught by Satyajit Parab and Rohit Sharma was trapped lbw.

Patel followed it up by dismissing captain Amol Muzumdar.

Abhishek Nair scored 10 before being cleaned up by Patel. It was 17 for 6 in in 7.1 overs when Samant walked in. He and Wilkin Mota (33) then put on 66 runs.

Earlier, resuming at nine without loss, Baroda's batsmen collapsed like a deck of cards.
