Chetanya Nanda and skipper Virender Sehwag cast a web as Delhi thrashed Haryana by an innings and 18 runs to survive in the Ranji Trophy Super League in Rohtak on Friday.

On the third day of the Group A encounter at the Choudhury Bansi Lal stadium, the home team resumed their second innings at 105 for 6, needing another 165 to avoid an innings defeat.

But leg-spinner Nanda (6 for 112) and Sehwag (4 for 63) ensured that Haryana were bowled out for 251. The two tweakers bowled accurately on a track assisting spinners and helped Delhi earn five points from the game, including a bonus point.

Overnight batsmen, skipper Joginder Sharma and wicketkeeper Mahesh Rawat, tried to delay the inevitable and added 80 runs for the seventh wicket.

Rawat (73) was the top-scorer, hitting 11 boundaries and a six in his 110-ball knock.

Rawat and Joginder (44) frustrated the Delhi bowlers this morning before the Haryana skipper was dismissed by Sehwag.

Later, tailenders Tejinder Mann (24) and Sanjay Budhwar (15) put up some resistance. But Delhi spinners were on target to wrap up Haryana's second innings for 251 to script their first win in the last outing of the season.

The victory helped Delhi avoid the ignominy of being relegated to the Plate division.

Brief scores:

Delhi 1st innings: 382 all out (V Sehwag 106, R Bhatia90, A Chopra 84,  A Mishra 4-80)

Haryana 1st innings: 113 all out (S Rana 54,  A Bhandari 3-18, C Nanda 3-36)

Haryana 2nd innings (f/o):  251 all out (M Rawat 73, Joginder Sharma 44, C Nanda 6-112, V Sehwag 4-63)

Result: Delhi won by an innings and 18 runs
