Riding on a hundred by opener M Vijay and skipper S Badrinath's half-century, Tamil Nadu gained the first innings lead over Baroda on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Group 'A' match in Chennai on Thursday.

The hosts were struggling after losing two wickets for three runs on Wednesday. But Vijay (121) and Badrinath (89) steadied the innings, after resuming at the overnight score of 13/2, to take the home team to 267 for 6 at stumps.

The duo put on 174 runs for the third wicket after which Badrinath fell, caught at backward short leg by Jacob Martin off medium pacer Yusuf Pathan. The Tamil Nadu skipper hit 11 boundaries in his crucial knock.

Vijay and Hemang Badani (19) added 44 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter was clean bowled by Yusuf.

Yusuf claimed his third wicket of the day as Vijay was caught by Martin. The opener's knock of 121 came off 202 balls and included 15 boundaries and a six.

At close, veteran S. Sharath (18) and S. Vidyuth (2) were at the crease.

For Baroda, siblings Yusuf (3 for 64) and Irfan Pathan (2 for 39) were the successful bowlers.
