Mumbai scraped through to a two-run win over Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy Super League Group A tie in Jhalawar on Wednesday.
The home team, resuming from their overnight total of 48 for one, appeared to be heading for an outright win when they were comfortably placed at 244 for two, largely due to a solid 159-run stand between V Saxena (122) and N Doru (82).
Even after Saxena departed at that score, his wicket taken by young spinner Iqbal Abdullah, R Bist (64) combined well for a 62-run fourth wicket stand with Doru.
But Rajasthan couldn't build on the foundation and succumbed, losing their last six wickets for just 43 runs as the visitors manged to sneak through.
Five needless run outs, including that of Doru and Bist, also was the bane of Rajasthan's chase.
