The forthcoming Champions Trophy in India will see doping tests being introduced for the first time at ICC events.

"Random doping tests will be conducted by WADA [World Anti Doping Agency]. It is the first time doping tests have been officially introduced at ICC events," BCCI's Administrative Head and Champions Trophy tournament director Ratnakar Shetty told reporters in Mumbai on Friday.

Samples taken from two players, randomly chosen from any of the playing teams during the tournament, will be sent for analysis to a laboratory in Kuala Lumpur.

"However, if a player is taking some medicines to recover from injury then the player must inform the medical committee in advance about the prescriptions," Shetty added.

All the information sent by the players would then be analysed before a decision is taken whether the player would undergo the doping test or not.

Shetty also added that for the first time all players taking part in the Champions Trophy have been insured.

"The ICC has introduced an insurance scheme for all the teams. Each player has been insured for a sum of US $3,00,000," Shetty said.

The tournament is one of the biggest events in the history of the game, with 21 matches to be played. The previous Champions Trophy in England in 2004 had 15 matches in all.

While all other teams will play two practice matches, hosts India will just have one practice match before the main event.

The tournament will see big time cricket returning to the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai, also known as the Brabourne Stadium, after nearly 34 years.
