Come 2007, the Australian cricket team will change colours, literally!
The world champions will don "high-tech" collarless shirts in one-day international matches, aimed at providing unmatched comfort and style.
The new attire has been modelled by captain Ricky Ponting and comes in the same colour as the team's baggy green cap with players' names written in metallic gold colour, the Australian Associated Press reported on Tuesday.
This would be a big deviation for the Aussies as far as colour of their attire in one-dayers is concerned. For the last 30 years they had been wearing clothes of canary yellow.
Many other cricket teams, like South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh also wear predominantly green-coloured one-day uniforms. But Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland said a clash of colour would not be an issue.
The new dress is made of a dual-layered lightweight material and features a high neckline to protect players from the sun.
Ponting said he was delighted with the new uniform.
"It feels great. It's very light-weight. In the conditions we play in around the world it's important that you have the right technology and materials in your shirt.
"The players ... have had a lot of input into the making of the shirt. They're really happy with it," he said.
"The guys won't have to be flicking their collars right up through the game. The zip at the front will enable the collar to stay up and keep the sun off the back of our necks, which is obviously very important," the skipper said.
