Sreesanth left out of Champions Trophy

Sourav Ganguly was once again ignored by the national selectors, as the former Indian captain was left out of the 14-member Champions Trophy squad despite naming him among the probables.

Kerala seamer S Sreesanth was also left out of the squad, announed in Mumbai on Saturday, for the premier one-day tournament to be played from October 7 to November 5.

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who was expected to return the one-day scheme of things until he developed a tendonitis of the shoulder during his County stint for Surrey, also did not find a place in the squad announced by BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah after a meeting of the national selection committee.

The prestigious biennial event is to be played in four centres at Mumbai, Mohali, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. India open their campaing against England at Jaipur on October 15.

The selectors retained the squad that recently visited Sri Lanka for the tri-series against Australia and the West Indies in Malaysia from September 12 to 24.

The 14-member squad for Champions Trophy: Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Mohd Kaif, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Mongia, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Rudra Pratap Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Munaf Patel, Harbhajan Singh and Ramesh Powar.

The 15-member squad for tri-series in Malaysia: Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Mohd Kaif, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Mongia, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, S Sreesanth, Ajit Agarkar, Rudra Pratap Singh, Munaf Patel, Harbhajan Singh and Ramesh Powar.
