India v Australia, Statistical Highlights

  • The match was the 12th day-night ODI encounter at Mohali - most at any ground in India [ Images ]. Mohali moves ahead of Eden Gardens in Kolkata [ Images ], which has hosted 11 day-night games.

 

  • Umpire Steve Bucknor [ Images ] was officiating as a ground umpire for the 150th time in a one-day international. He became the third umpire to do so after David Shepherd (172) and Rudi Koertzen [ Images ] (156).

 

  • Sachin Tendulkar [ Images ] was playing his 370th ODI. With this he equalled Sanath Jayasuriya's [ Images ] world record of most ODI appearances.

 

  • Rahul Dravid [ Images ] was playing his 300th match. He became third Indian after Tendulkar (370) and Azharuddin (334) and eighth in the world to do so.

 

  • Shane Watson [ Images ] was playing his 50th match. He became 44th Australian to do so.

 

  • Sachin Tendulkar got out to McGrath for the seventh time in his ODI career. Only Chaminda Vaas [ Images ] has dismissed him more often, while Heath Streak and Shaun Pollock [ Images ] have also dismissed Tendulkar seven times.

 

  • The catch of Tendulkar off McGrath was also Adam Gilchrist's [ Images ] 400th dismissal in ODIs - 355 catches and 45 stumpings. He was playing his 245th match. Gilchrist became first wicketkeeper to reach this landmark. South African Mark Boucher [ Images ] - with 331 dismissals - is distant second.

 

  • Shane Watson scored his second fifty in his two matches against India. Against all other opponents he has managed just two in 48 games!

 

  • Ricky Ponting [ Images ], on scoring his 33rd run, completed his 1,000 runs in ODI matches on Indian soil. He became only the fifth non-Indian batsman to do so after Aravinda de Silva (1438 runs in 37 matches), Arjuna Ranatunga [ Images ] (1160 in 39), Michael Bevan [ Images ] (1018 in 28) and Carl Hooper (1008 in 31).

 

·         Ponting also became the leading run-scorer for Australia [ Images ] against India in ODIs. At the end of this match, Ponting's run-aggregate stands at 1369 (from 37 games), which takes him ahead of fellow teammate Adam Gilchrist, who has a tally of 1360 runs (from 33 matches).

 

  • Damien Martyn remained not out for the 50th time in his career. He became third Australian after Michael Bevan (67) and Steve Waugh [ Images ] (58) to do so.

 

  • Australia's total of 252-4 is now the highest total by a side batting second to win a match at Mohali. The previous highest successful chase was achieved by Pakistan, who made 197-3 to defeat India in 1999.

 

  • In last 20 games between the two sides, India has won just three. The last time India defeated Australia was at Brisbane [ Images ] in a VB Series game in January 2004.

 

  • Martyn won his tenth man of the match award - his second against India. Martyn's other award had come at Mumbai [ Images ] in a TVS [ Get Quote ] Cup match in 2003 where he made 100.

 

  • By winning this match Australia topped the Group A and will now meet New Zealand [ Images ] in the first semi-final at Mohali on November 1.
