Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawradene won the toss and elected to field against South Africa on Tuesday in the Group B Champions Trophy match at the Sardar Patel stadium in Motera.
With the dew factor coming into play under lights, captains have preferred to put the opposition in. Teams batting second have won four of the six main-round matches so far in the low-scoring tournament.
Sri Lanka, who play their last league match in Ahmedabad, beat New Zealand in Mumbai on Friday to collect their first points after losing their opening match to Pakistan by four wickets.
South Africa, meanwhile, need to win the game to remain in contention for a place in the knock-out stage.
