-The wicket of Lou Vincent was 350th for Shaun Pollock in his 262nd match. He became fifth bowler in the history of the game to reach this landmark after Pakistan's Wasim Akram (502 wickets in 356 matches), Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan (419 in 279), Waqar Younis (416 in 262) and Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas (358 in 283).

-Stephen Fleming's 89 accounted for 45.64 percent of New Zealand total. This is the second highest contribution made by a Kiwi captain in a completed innings (where all ten wickets fell). Only Martin Crowe (47.20% - 76 out of 161 v England at Sydney on 13-12-1990) has made a higher contribution than Fleming for New Zealand.

-Fleming remained the top-scorer in New Zealand's innings. This was the 11th time that Fleming was top-scoring in a completed innings (where all ten wickets fell) as New Zealand's captain. This takes Fleming at level with Sri Lankan Arjuna Ranatunga to have most such instances for any captain in ODIs, ahead of India's Mohammad Azharuddin (10).

-South Africa's total of 108 is their lowest ever against New Zealand and fifth lowest against all countries. The details:

Total Overs Opp Venue Date
69 28 Aus Sydney 14 Dec 1993
101 26.5 Pak Sharjah 28 Mar 2000
106 38.3 Aus Sydney 22 Jan 2002

-The four ducks in South African innings equal the existing record of maximum ducks against New Zealand. Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 11-11-1996, West Indies at Taupo on 04-01-2000 and Pakistan at Dambulla on 11-05-2003 had also recorded four ducks against New Zealand.

-All South African batsmen scored a total of 10 boundaries in the match - one less than what Stephen Fleming hit for New Zealand.

-The victory margin of 87 runs is the largest for New Zealand in a match against South Africa. New Zealand's previous biggest win over South Africa was by 47 runs at Adelaide on 06-12-1997.

-South Africa lost the match by 87 runs despite chasing a small victory target of 196 runs. This, in fact, is the fifth biggest margin of defeat in all ODIs for a side chasing a target of below 200. The details:
