- Sachin Tendulkar was playing his 368th match -- most by any player in game's history. He moves ahead of Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq and Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya, who have appeared in 367 matches apiece.
- Rahul Dravid was captaining India for the 50th time in a one-day international. He became fifth Indian joining Mohammad Azharuddin (174), Sourav Ganguly (146), Kapil Dev (74) and Sachin Tendulkar (73).
- England's total of 125 is their lowest against India home or abroad. Their previous lowest was 149 (in 41.4 overs) at Sydney on 26-02-1985. Incidentally England's previous lowest against India in India was 164 (in 38.1 overs) at Delhi on 28-03-2006.
- England's total is also the fourth lowest by any side against India in India after Bangladesh's 115 (at Mumbai on 25-05-1998), Sri Lanka's 122 (at Mohali on 28-10-2005) and West Indies' 123 (at Calcutta on 27-11-1993).
- Munaf Patel (3-18) returned his best figures in ODIs obliterating 3 for 53 against Australia at Kuala Lumpur on 16-09-2006. Incidentally in his only two other games against England, Munaf had failed to get even one wicket!
- Ramesh Powar (3-24) registered his best figures in ODIs improving upon his 3 for 34 also against England at Faridabad on 31-03-2006.
- England seems to be Powar's favourite opponent. In six matches against England, Powar has taken 10 wickets at an average of 22.60 and a strike-rate of just over 33. Against all other opponents he has managed only 9 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 38 and a strike-rate of 46.
- Tendulkar completed his 6,000 runs in day-night matches when his score reached 26. He was playing his 143rd day-night match and 141st innings. Tendulkar became the first batsman in game's history to reach this milestone.
- India won the match with 123 balls remaining, making it their biggest win against England in terms of balls spared. The previous record had also been made in a Champions Trophy match. At Colombo (RPS) on 22-09-2002 India had beaten England with 63 balls still remaining to be bowled.
- Munaf Patel won his maiden Man of the match award in his 11th match.
