Heavy morning rain on Wednesday forced the cancellation of the scheduled ICC Champions Trophy warm-up match between New Zealand and Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium, though another scheduled warm-up tie between South Africa and Saurashtra started on time at suburban MIG Club ground in Bandra.
"The practice match between New Zealand and Mumbai had to be cancelled due to wet ground conditions and will be held tomorrow at the MIG Club ground, where the other scheduled practice match could be started in time, as it was not affected by rain," said Champions Trophy tournament director Ratnakar Shetty.
The two-hour showers that lashed south Mumbai on Wednesday morning also rendered the Brabourne stadium outfield slushy, forcing the Australian team's scheduled morning practice session to be put off to the afternoon.
The weather in Mumbai is pretty humid since the last few days and the organisers are keeping their fingers crossed that no rain disruptions occur when the first Champions Trophy match, a qualifier between title-holders West Indies and Sri Lanka, takes place at the Brabourne stadium on October 14.
