Sachin Tendulkar, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, had a light batting session with a cricket ball at the Mumbai Cricket Association Ground at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Tendulkar batted for around 25 minutes and hit deliveries thrown to him by trainer Gregory King. Meanwhile, Team India's bio-mechanist Ian Frazer watched closely as the master batsmen played at the deliveries.
This was Tendulkar's second day of practice since undergoing shoulder surgery in March. On Tuesday, he had a light workout with coach Greg Chappell and physio John Gloster.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday said both Tendulkar and Gloster were happy with the outcome of his first batting session.
'The return to batting is a graded process to allow for adaptation to the new loads involved and his tolerance to all new demands placed on him physically to this point have been satisfactory,' BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said in a statement on Wednesday.
'The review process for Sachin is an ongoing one and the decision regarding his availability will be taken soon once Gloster, Sachin, the surgeon and other affiliated parties are confident of his recovery,' Shah added.
Tendulkar's elder brother and mentor Ajit was present at the ground today.
If Tendulkar's recovery is on track, he will present his fitness certificate to the BCCI by May 20 so that he can be named in the Indian team for the Test series in the West Indies.
