India opening batsman Virender Sehwag faces a fitness test before the first one-day international against England on Tuesday, a Board of Control for Cricket in India official said on Saturday.

The attacking Delhi player suffered back spasms during the third and final Test in Mumbai, which England won by 212 runs on Wednesday to square the three-match series.

"He will be assessed in the nets tomorrow before we know whether he will be available for the game," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told Reuters.

A shoulder injury sidelined Sehwag during the 4-1 one-day series victory in Pakistan last month.

India are already without leading batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who was ruled out of the seven-match series with a shoulder injury. Tendulkar left for London on Saturday to undergo surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action for at least two months.
