Ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the forthcoming one-day international series against England with a shoulder injury.

"We received the medical report from physio John Gloster in consultation with BCCI specialist Dr Anant Joshi before the meeting. According to them, Sachin is suffering from posterior labrum tear of the right shoulder with an associated paralabral cyst," Board of Control for Cricket in India honorary joint secretary M P Pandove told reporters while announcing the Indian team for the first three one-day matches in Mumbai on Tuesday.

"He has been recommended urgent surgery to rectify it," Pandove said adding, "Depending on the outcome of the surgery, he would be out for eight weeks after it."

It was also said that the master batsman was struggling from the injury since the series against Sri Lanka in October last year. Incidentally, it was the same series, where Tendulkar made a long-awaited return to cricket after being out of action for nearly six months. He had undergone surgery for tennis elbow on his left elbow in May last year.

"Sachin has been mildly troubled by his shoulder since the Sri Lanka series, but the condition was monitored and treated accordingly then. But after the recent scans and advise by the specialists it was decided that surgery would be needed," Pandove said.

He also stated that the problem did not affect his ability to bat, but he had problem with throwing the ball.

Strange it may seem, but Tendulkar has been seen fielding near the boundary ropes throughout the ongoing three Test series against England.

The surgery will take place under the supervision of Dr Andrew Wallace, the same surgeon who operated upon him last year.

"He is familiar with Sachin and his conditions as well as his recent surgical experience with Sachin's elbow. The surgery date has not yet been decided," Pandove said.

He, however, added that Tendulkar would bat on Wednesday as India look to save the third Test against England at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
