India win toss, elect to bat

India [ Images ] won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test against the West Indies [ Images ] at the Antigua Recreation Ground in St John's, on Friday.

The visitors decided to strengthen their batting and went in with only one spinner in Anil Kumble [ Images ] and three pacers, in young V R V Singh, who will make his Test debut, S Sreesanth [ Images ] and Munaf Patel [ Images ].

Harbhajan Singh [ Images ] and Irfan Pathan [ Images ] were left out.

For the West Indies Shivnarine Chanderpaul [ Images ], who did not play the final two one-dayers because of a hamstring injury, returned to the side.
