Team India coach Greg Chappell has said Indian cricketers needed to be mentally stronger to do well in Test matches.
Chappell said mental aspect played an important role in Test cricket and the lack of mental toughness was one reason why the Indians have not been able to do well overseas.
"Mental aspect plays an important role in Test matches and that is one area where we have shown ourselves to be a little inefficient," Chappell said.
The former Australian skipper said the Indians, who suffered a 1-4 loss to West Indies in the recent ODI series, had to work on the mental aspect of the game to improve their performance abroad.
"It is a tough series (against the West Indies). Playing away is always difficult. Our record (while playing away) is not good. We need to try and change the mindset where players set themselves to win than draw or lose," Chappell told NDTV.
On sports psychologist Dr Rudy Webster's role in making the players mentally stronger, Chappell said though the effect could not be seen overnight, yet the changes brought by his counselling could be observed in some players.
"It is not a magic wand. It cannot be seen overnight. But the performance of Virender Sehwag in the last one-dayer is indicative of it. Also it has made a difference in some players," Chappell said.
