Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene [ Images ] and Kumar Sangakkara [ Images ] on Saturday set the world record for the highest partnership for any wicket in Test match cricket.

The record comes on the third day of the first Test against South Africa [ Images ].

The duo put on an 576 runs in their unbeaten third wicket stand to break the previous record, which was also held by Sri Lankans Sanath Jayasuriya [ Images ] and Roshan Mahanama against India [ Images ].
