England recalled Simon Jones on Friday for their three-Test tour of India starting next month after surgery on an ankle injury.
Jones missed the tour of Pakistan last year after playing a vital role in England's Ashes triumph over Australia.
Captain Michael Vaughan and left-arm spinner Ashley Giles have been selected subject to fitness tests while off spinner Shaun Udal, who struggled to make an impact in the 2-0 loss to Pakistan, retains his place.
Chairman of selectors David Graveney said a third spinner would be named after Giles's fitness had been assessed.
Pace bowler Liam Plunkett, who bowled impressively in Pakistan, retains his place at the expense of James Anderson, who has been named in the one-day squad.
Darren Gough, who was unavailable for the trip to Pakistan, was not selected for the one-day squad while Vikram Solanki is replaced by Ian Bell.
"Liam Plunkett has made a promising start to his international career and is an emerging player with great potential," Graveney said.
"We believe Ian Bells's ability to bat in the top order will give us another option as we plan for the World Cup."
