Vice-captain tag made me responsible: Yuvraj

Having impressed one and all with his match-winning efforts on the Pakistan tour, Yuvraj Singh [ Images ] says the vice-captain status bestowed on him midway through the one-day series had helped him become more responsible as a player.

"It gave me more responsibility and I wanted to play with responsibility and win matches for my country," Yuvraj, declared man of the series, told a TV channel in Karachi before leaving for India [ Images ].

Yuvraj, who scored 344 runs at an astounding average of 172, said he had played well in the last Test in Karachi and wanted to carry it forward in the one-dayers.

"I played well in the last Test match and I wanted to continue with my form in one dayers. We wanted to finish on a good note so the last one-day match was also important," he said.

On the winning combination he formed with Mahendra Singh Dhoni [ Images ] that saw the team through in the two matches at Lahore [ Images ] and Karachi, he said, "I just wanted to stay there and play. I knew if Dhoni is around, then we can win."

Asked about the forthcoming England [ Images ] series, he said the team was high on confidence and looking forward to it.

"We have played well recently and given consistent performances. There is a small gap before we take on England which is good for the players."
