R Prasanna scored an unbeaten 120 in a lone hand as Tamil Nadu ended day one on 267 for eight against Uttar Pradesh in the Elite Group 'A' Ranji Trophy cricket match in Chennai on Monday.
For Uttar Pradesh, medium pacer R P Singh claimed 4-58 while Praveen Kumar took 2-42.
Tamil Nadu lost openers S Anirudha (4) and M Vijay (7) with just 16 on board. Captain Badrinath joined Prasanna in the middle but was back in the pavilion after scoring 22, clean bowled by R P Singh.
S Sharath (25), R Satish (7), Yo Mahesh (26), Varun Kumar (2) batted in and around Prasanna but failed to give him able support from the other end.
Prasanna, however, did not lose focus and batted steadily to score his century.
He hit 14 boundaries in his knock which took 370 minutes.
Prasanna and Aswin (1) were at the crease when stumps were drawn today.
