Mail leak shocks Muthiah

Expressing shock at the e-mail leak of coach Greg Chappell's report addressed to the Board of Conrol for Cricket in India president, A C Muthiah, former BCCI president, has questioned the authority of the review committee to inquire into the stand-off between Chappell and captain Sourav Ganguly.

"Selection of captain and the players are the prerogative of the selection committee. It is a responsible committee. Where does the review committee come into the picture, when the National selection committee has the right to pick or drop a player," Muthiah asked.

"Is this review committee a super committee?" he asked adding that the committee had no powers to decide while the selection panel's decisions "are made public only on the Board president's approval."

Insisting that the selection committee is the appropriate forum to inquire into the stand-off between the coach and captain, Muthiah said "even during my tenure as the BCCI president, there have been exchange of correspondence between the coach and myself.

"The coach's reports were confidential and never in the Board's history such reports had been given to the media. It is a matter of grave concern."

On the remarks of some players on the issue, he said "there seems to be a complete lack of coordination and discipline. Something has to be done to stop these things."
