- Stephen Fleming, during his innings of 47, completed his 1,000 runs against India. He was playing his 39th match and 37th innings. Fleming became second New Zealander to perform this feat against India after Nathan Astle (1092 runs in 28 matches).

- Craig McMillan, during his innings of 40, completed his 4,000 runs in ODIs. He was playing his 166th match and 156th innings. He became sixth New Zealander to perform the feat.

- Scott Styris completed his 2,000 runs in ODIs during his innings of 56. He became the 13th New Zealand player to reach the personal landmark of 2,000 runs.

- Chris Cairns batted at number 9 for the first time in his ODI career. He has now batted at all positions from 1 to 9 and became only the third New Zealander to bat at nine different positions in ODIs after Chris Harris (batted at all positions excepting # 1 & # 10) and Adam Parore (batted at all positions excepting # 10 & # 11).

- Mohammad Kaif (102 not out) scored his second century in ODIs. His only other three-figure innings was an unbeaten 111 against Zimbabwe at Colombo RPS on September 14, 2002. Kaif's previous highest against New Zealand was 68 not out at Centurion on March 14, 2003.

- Kaif's century came after a gap of 67 innings. Among the Indians only four players have had the larger gap (in terms of innings) between two centuries. The following table has the details:

Batsman Inns Runs Hs Ave 50s From To
M Azharuddin 137 4421 95* 40.56 34 27 Apr 1990 26 Jul 1997
R Shastri 79 1852 73* 28.06 13 20 Jan 1985 20 Jul 1990

M Kaif 67 1551 95* 28.20 10 25 Sep 2002 29 Aug 2005

- Kaif became the third Indian batsman to score a century in Zimbabwe after Sachin Tendulkar (2) and Sourav Ganguly (1).

- The 101-run partnership for the third wicket between Mohammad Kaif and Rahul Dravid is India's best for this wicket in Zimbabwe. This obliterates the 93-run partnership between Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on June 27, 2001.

- Rahul Dravid completed his 1,000 runs against New Zealand when his score reached 21. He became the fourth Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar (1460 runs in 38 matches), Mohammad Azharuddin (1118 in 40) and Sourav Ganguly (1048 in 31) to do so.

- India's total of 279 for four is their second highest against New Zealand batting second to win a match. The best still remains 282-8 in reply to New Zealand's 278-3 at Baroda on December 17, 1988.

- India's total of 279-6 is the highest winning total for any side batting second at Harare. The previous highest was Pakistan's 276-6 against Zimbabwe on March 29, 1998.

- The above total is also India's highest on Zimbabwean soil, beating the 274-8 against West Indies at Harare on July 7, 2001.

- Kaif won his fifth man of the match award in ODIs and his first against New Zealand.
