Deposed India captain Sourav Ganguly looks set to make a comeback in the Test team to be announced on Wednesday.

According to sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Ganguly will stage a comeback, but the captaincy will remain with Rahul Dravid.

The selectors are expected to pick a 15-member squad for the first of a three-Test series against Sri Lanka in Chennai on Wednesday besides naming the team for the last two one-day internationals against South Africa. The captain for the Test series will be named on Tuesday.

BCCI sources said the team for the last two one-dayers is likely to remain the same that played the first three ties.

Initially, the Test team was to be picked on November 28, but that date has been advanced, and BCCI sources said it has been decided to name the squad with Ganguly in it to avoid trouble ahead of the one-day international against South Africa in Kolkata on November 25.

There have been numerous protests in the city against the continued exclusion of Ganguly from the team.

There has also been some talk of India going the Australian way and appointing two separate captains for the two variants of the game, but that now seems unlikely.

"Ganguly is India's most successful skipper, but all those statistics is history now. He can only hope to be back in the team as a member," said a BCCI source.
