The Magnificent March 1995-2005

Adam Gilchrist was playing only the second Test of his career and Justin Langer was yet to make the opener's slot his own. Before the game no one would have picked the two as Australia's heroes in adversity.

But they proved to be in the second Test against Pakistan at Hobart in 1999.

Australia were chasing a victory target of 369, and the gloomy, cold, gray day in Tasmania was descending on the Australian dressing room as they were reduced to 126 for five.

But the two left-handers stood ground. Langer drilled 127 runs from 295 balls. Gilchrist went about in his carefree fashion and began his march to greatness with an unbeaten 149 to take Australia to an unlikely win.

Australia posted third highest successful fourth innings run chase in the history of Test cricket to beat Pakistan by four wickets on the final day of the Test and lead the series 2-0.

Australia won the final match of the series by an innings and 20 runs.
