Mongia's haul in vain

July 31, 2005 20:33 IST

Dinesh Mongia's three-wicket haul went in vain as Leicestershire were beaten by Somerset in the semi-finals of the Twenty20 [ Images ] Cup at the Brit Oval on Saturday night.

Mongia took three for 30 from four overs, helping Leicestershire restrict Somerset to 157 for nine. Mongia's victims included prolific England [ Images ] opener Marcus Trescothick [ Images ], who scored 25 off 19 balls, inclusive of three fours and a six.

While chasing, Leicestershire suffered a batting collapse, spiraling down from 74 for no loss to 98 for four before falling short by four runs.

H Ackerman and (19) D Maddy (56) gave the side a fine start before Ian Blackwell's (3-25) lethal bowling spelt the doom for Leicestershire.

Mongia scored 12 (9b, 2x4) before falling to Blackwell's guile.

Later, Somerset beat Lancashire in the final to clinch the title.
