One month into his new assignment as coach of Team India, Greg Chappell says he is already seeing changes in players' thinking and approach, but made it clear that no time-frame can be set to make the team a champion side.
"I am very happy with the progress that we are making; whether that means we are a world-beating side... not now. I can't tell you," he said.
"But I think from my own point of view it's going to take time to get to where I want the team to be; whether it's three months, six months or 12 months, I can't tell you."
"Already, I can see the players thinking differently, approaching things a bit differently which is what I wanted to see," the 56-year-old former Australia captain added.
Describing the players as an intelligent bunch, he said they responded enthusiastically to the new set of ideas -- both on and off-field ones.
"I think that we are going to see changes; no doubt that we will see some changes," the batting great said. "But just what (the changes) that would be and how quickly they can be integrated into them applying... only time will tell," he added.
Chappell said barring Ashish Nehra, all the probables in the camp are fully fit.
He said Nehra, who suffered from viral fever in the early part of the fitness and conditioning camp, was a little bit behind the others as he could not take part in the proceedings fully. But Nehra has been instructed to continue his training at full pace.
"So, we would hope that in the not too distant future he will also be fully fit. He is probably the only one I would say who is not fully fit."
Those who returned after playing county cricket are also fit, the coach said.
Two practice matches before the camp ends on June 19 would give a better picture on players' fitness and where exactly they stand, he said.
He said the two practice matches on Saturday and July 19 -- would be played as per the new ICC rules governing One-Day Internationals.
"We are going to use the rules to get a feel of what (the rules) suits us; what suits other teams."
In response to a question, Chappell said the team would continuously use the 'de Bono' way of lateral thinking and enhancing creative skills, whether it's for preparing for games or team meeting, among others.
"The more we use, the more useful it will become."
He declined to share his thoughts on the coming tri-series, saying priority now is to concentrate on the camp.
"Life is to be taken a day at a time," he remarked. "I don't like to get too far ahead."
