Udit Patel and C Raghavendra grabbed four wickets each as Karnataka scored an innings and eight-run victory over Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Tuesday.
The visitors, resuming at 78 without loss, were all out for 144, giving Karnataka their first win this season.
Electing to bat first, Karnataka scored 260 in their first innings with a fluent 96 from Robin Uthappa. In reply, Maharashtra could manage only 108 in their first innings and were forced to follow-on.
They fared no better in their second innings as Patel and Raghavendra took 4 for 38 and 4 for 46 respectively to bundle them out cheaply after a good start. In fact, they were at 110 for two at one stage, but the last eight wickets fell like nine pins for a mere addition of 34 runs.
The win, which came on the third day of the four-day encounter, gave Sujith Somasunder's side five points, including one bonus point for the innings victory, boosting their tally to eight from five encounters.
Maharashtra now have four points from five matches.
