Punjab medium pacers Gagandeep Singh (4 for 37) and Ishan Malhotra (4 for 78) bowled out Haryana for 232 in their first innings in the second round Elite Group match on the opening day in the Ranji Trophy Championship at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Thursday.
The visitors' innings terminated in 85.3 overs when Amit Mishra was caught by wicketkeeper Pankaj Dharmani off the bowling of Malhotra.
Punjab openers Ravneet Ricky and Karan Goel played two overs before close of play and did not score any run.
Barring local lad Bagheshwar Bisht (38), the top batting order of Haryana collapsed as the visitors were 81 for six in 30.1 overs.
However, the defiant Haryana tail enders gave some respectability to their teams total with resolute batting from Pardeep Sahu (32), Mahesh Rawat (31), Sachin Rana (49) and Amit Mishra (34).
Sahu and Rawat defied the Punjab bowlers to be associated in a 41-run partnership for the eight wicket. They carried their score from 81 to 122 for seven before Sahu was caught by Gupta at second slip of the bowling of Malhotra.
The best partnership for Haryana came from Sachin Rana and Amit Mishra. Their ninth wicket association yielded 73 valuable runs.
