The umpires are scheduled to inspect the Old Trafford pitch at 1430 GMT after rain delayed the start of the third day of the third Ashes Test in Manchester, on Saturday.

Play had been due to begin at 0930 GMT but several morning rain showers forced the players to take an early lunch at 1100 GMT.

Australia, replying to England's first innings of 444, were on 214 for seven, requiring 31 more to avoid the follow-on. The five-match series stands at 1-1.

Australia's score was increased by four runs on Saturday after it was realised one ball which went for four byes had not been correctly signalled on Friday.

Weather forecasts suggest a drier afternoon in Manchester.
