Sourav Ganguly was named captain of the 15-member Indian squad for the tour of Zimbabwe later this month.
Rahul Dravid, who took over the reins for the just-concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka, is vice-captain for the tour, which involves a two-Test series with the hosts and a triangular series that also involves New Zealand.
The decision to re-appoint Ganguly as captain was not unanimous with the selectors, who met under the chairmanship of Kiran More.
"There was some deliberations from the selectors, but this is the final decision," Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary S K Nair told reporters in Mumbai, on Friday, after the meeting.
Ganguly, who was included in the team for the tri-series after his six-match ban for slow over-rate was reduced to four, and coach Greg Chappell will attend Saturday's selection committee meeting, which will name the other members of the squad.
Chappell will also submit his report on the Sri Lanka tri-series.
Physio John Gloster is also expected to submit a physical fitness update on Sachin Tendulkar, who has been sidelined since he underwent elbow surgery in May.
The team will leave for Zimbabwe on August 22.
