Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has changed his mind and has decided not to withdraw from the election to the post of president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur, who is canvassing support for Pawar, on Wednesday morning announced that 'there is no question of Pawar withdrawing from the race because the numbers are now beginning to favour him'.
Earlier in the day, there were indications that Pawar was considering withdrawing from the fray in favour of a consensus candidate.
But the other contender Ranbir Singh Mahendra refused to withdraw from the fray. He enjoys the backing of outgoing BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.
This may have prompted Pawar to change his mind about contesting.
The president of the BCCI is elected by representatives of the various cricket associations in the country, which number 30. In the event of a tie, the BCCI president will cast his vote to break the deadlock.
