The United States versus Australia match in the ICC Champions Trophy at Rose Bowl on Monday witnessed a very interesting world record, which somehow escaped the eagle eyes of cricket statisticians world over.
The US side comprised of four forty-plus, three thirty five-plus, two thirty-plus and only two under-30 players with Steve Massiah being the youngest at 25.
The average age of the US team was 35 years and 254 days, which makes it the oldest team ever to appear in a one-day international.
Interestingly, the second position in the list of oldest teams is also occupied by US. In the match against New Zealand on the opening day of ICC Champions Trophy, the average of the US side was 34 years 350 days old, which easily broke the previous world record held by Holland. The average age of the Dutch team in 1996 World Cup match against England was 33 years 302 days.
