The USA -Australia Champions Trophy match on September 13 at Rose Bowl witnessed a very interesting world record, which somehow escaped the eagle eyes of cricket statisticians world over. The USA side comprised of four forty-plus, three thirty five-plus, two thirty-plus and only two under-30 players with Steve Messiah being the youngest at 25.

The average age of this USA team was 35 years and 254 days, which makes it the oldest team ever to appear in a One-Day International. Interestingly USA side itself also occupies the second position in the list of oldest teams.

The side that featured in the match against New Zealand on the opening day of ICC Champions Trophy was 34 years 350 days old on an average, which easily broke the previous world record held by Holland. The average age of Dutch team in 1995-96 World Cup match against England was 33 years 302 days.
