Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the first cricket Test against Australia, starting in Bangalore on Wednesday.

India skipper Sourav Ganguly said left-hand batsman Yuvraj Singh will replace the batting maestro in the final eleven.

"Tendulkar is not playing in this Test match. We are hopeful of him playing in the next Test. Yuvraj will be in the team," Ganguly said at a function to unveil the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Tendulkar, who is out of action with a tennis elbow, missed India's last three Limited Overs International tournaments, including the ICC Champions Trophy. He was included in the 15-member squad for the first two Tests subject to passing a fitness test before the first match.

Ganguly said the 31-year-old batting ace's services with both bat and ball would be missed.

"He is a great player. We always miss him. We will miss him with the bat and the ball. We expect him to be fit for the next Test."
