A fine hat trick by Gagandeep Singh helped hosts Punjab defeat Assam by an innings and 51 runs on the fourth and last day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match in Amritsar on Friday.
Resuming at the overnight score of 146 for 7, Assam lost the remaining three wickets for the addition of just 12 runs.
Facing a first innings deficit of 209 runs and following-on, Assam packed up in their second innings for 158.
Punjab had scored 422 in their first innings while Assam were out for 213 runs.
The architect of Assam's rout was Gagandeep Singh, who finished the second innings with figures of 6 for 26.
Rajesh Sharma 2 for 42 and Navdeep Singh 2 for 44 were the other wicket takers.
Overnight batsman A Konwar (12) was the first to go with the scored reading 156. The other overnight batsman, SV Saravanan (69, 4x9, and 6x1) followed and Javed Zamman (0) was the last to return to the pavilion.
Punjab got five points from the victory.
