Riding on a brilliant century by opener Satyajit Parab, Baroda reached 287 for six on the first day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match against Maharashtra at the Nehru stadium in Pune on Tuesday.
Electing to bat, Baroda openers Parab and Connor Williams put on a solid 164-run partnership for the first wicket.
Williams made an impressive 58 with the help of five fours during his 179-minute stay on the crease, while Parab made 120 that included 19 fours.
However, other Baroda batsmen could not capitalise on the opening start and fell cheaply though former India wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia and captain Jacob Martin contributed 42 and 40 runs respectively.
At the draw of the stumps, Rajesh Pawar (7) and Rakesh Patel (0) were at the crease.
For the hosts, veteran speedster Iqbal Siddiqui was the pick of the bowlers claiming five wickets for 75 runs.
