Harbhajan's action under scrutiny

November 16, 2004 21:20 IST

Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh [ Images ] is one of the seven cricketers in the world who have been drawn up by the ICC's [ Images ] special sub-committee as bowlers with highly suspect action, Australian media reported on Tuesday.

The list also contains Sri Lankans Muttiah Muralitharan [ Images ], Chaminda Vaas [ Images ] and Pakistan superstar Shoaib Akhtar [ Images ], who have taken more than 2000 international wickets between them.

West Indian Jermaine Lawson, Pakistan's Shoaib Malik [ Images ] and Bangladesh's Sanwar Hossain are also under intense scrutiny as cricket prepares to introduce a major overhaul of the way it polices suspect actions, an Australian website reported.

The actions of these seven bowlers stood out as being highly suspect in exhaustive slow-motion testing to finetune the new chucking guidelines.

The list contains no Australians although Muralitharan asserted yesterday that new technology had revealed Glenn McGrath [ Images ], Brett Lee [ Images ] and Jason Gillespie were all breaking the rule by straightening their arms beyond the current limit of 10 degrees.
