Opener Vinayak Mane's unbeaten century was the highlight of a drab fourth and final day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match between Mumbai and Railways that ended in a tame draw in Delhi on Wednesday.
The Mumbai opener scored 111 runs as the defending champions, resuming at the overnight score of three for no loss, reached 221 for three wickets in their second innings in 86 overs at stumps, at the Karnail Singh stadium.
The visitors, who had posted 361 in the first essay before restricting Railways to 284, clinched two points on the basis of the first innings lead.
The day started on a promising note for the home side as first innings centurion Wasim Jaffer returned to the pavilion cheaply.
Jaffer, who had scored an attractive 157 in his earlier knock, was trapped leg before by medium pacer Harvinder Singh after making just 11, inclusive of two boundaries.
The dismissal came in the fifth over of the day but that was the lone success Railways tasted in the morning session on a placid track that hardly provided any help to the bowlers.
Mane, seeking to make amends for the failure in the first innings when he made just six, did it in style by holding fort for close to six hours.
After Jaffer's dismissal, the opener was ably supported by Vinit Indulkar, who struck a patient 53. The duo added 106 runs in 45 overs for the second wicket before off-spinner Kulamani Parida struck, trapping Indulkar leg before when the team's score was 132.
