Assam skipper Zakaria Zufri and Vasant Sarvanan scored centuries but in vain as Baroda walked away with two points by virtue of their 74 runs first innings lead as their Ranji trophy match ended in a draw at the Nehru stadium in Guwahati on the fourth and final day on Wednesday.
The hosts lifted their standard a bit too late after conceding a vital 74 runs lead in the first innings to their stronger opponent yesterday.
Nevertheless the sparse crowd was treated to some solid batting by wicket keeper batsman and skipper Zufri who scored 106 with the help of eleven fours as Assam reached 360 for four at close.
His partner, Sarvanan, matched his skipper stroke-for-stroke in the 148 run partnership for the second wicket with a dashing 102 with the help of twelve fours and two sixes while remaining unconquered.
Assam never looked like they would be able to go for an outright win. So they chose to give their players valuable match practise ahead of their important encounter against Punjab later in the month.
