Sachin enters exclusive '5000 away' club

January 06, 2004 19:07 IST

In the Sydney [ Images ] Test, Sachin Tendulkar [ Images ] became the first Indian and only the fifth batsman in history to score more than 300 runs in a Test match without being dismissed.

Tendulkar's innings of 241* and 60* also took his career aggregate in 'away' Tests to exactly 5,000 runs, making him the second Indian (after Sunil Gavaskar [ Images ]) and fifth batsman overall to have scored 5,000 or more runs in matches on foreign soil.

Former Australian captain Allan Border [ Images ] heads the table of leading run-scorers in away matches with 5,431 runs from 70 games. Surely Tendulkar will not take much time now toppling him from the number one position.
