Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly will request the Indian cricket board to organize a three-day conditioning camp to help build the tempo for the tour of Pakistan.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya had ruled out any conditioning camp for the team on the ground that most players were participating in the Duleep Trophy.
But, Ganguly apparently doesn't believe his main players are match-fit.
"We are thinking of having a conditioning camp from March 6-8," Ganguly told reporters after a practice session at the Eden Gardens.
The skipper wants the camp primarily to discuss strategy against the new crop of Pakistani players. The team management was interested in watching videotapes of the new Pakistani players.
The camp would also give injured players like Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan and Anil Kumble a chance to prove their fitness and allow physiotherapist Andrew Leipus to assess them.
"The camp would allow all to get into the right frame of mind," Ganguly said.
Vice-captain Rahul Dravid recently said most players were relaxing after the tour of Australia and a conditioning camp would help them get into the right frame of mind.
The camp could be held in New Delhi because the Indian players will leave for Lahore from the capital on March 10.
On March 7 and 8 home and external affairs ministry officials in New Delhi will brief them about security.
The Indian team would be selected on March 3. It will play five one-dayers and three Tests. The team will return on April 18.
