Pakistan's Interior Ministry has decided to issue over 8000 visas to Indian fans for the one-day series during India's cricket tour next month.

"This is a historic series so we are doing our best," said Interior Secretary Noornai after a high level meeting of the Ministry at Lahore on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended among others by Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Riaz Khokar, and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Shahryar Khan.

India are to play five one-day internationals and three Tests during their first visit to Pakistan -- from March 11 to April 17 -- since they last toured in 1989-90.

Around 2500 visas each will be issued for the two one-day games in Lahore, 1500 for Karachi, 1000 for Rawalpindi and 750 for Peshawar.

The Ministry also decided to give 500 visas to fans coming by bus to witness the two back to back one-day games in Lahore on March 21 and 23.

A decision on the number of visas for the three Tests -- scheduled in Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi -- was yet to be decided, an official said.

The meeting also reviewed security arrangements with the law enforcing agencies.
