Shoaib had no bruise: PCB

In a disclosure that is likely to create more problems for Shoaib Akhtar, it was revealed on Wednesday that the Pakistan fast bowler had "no bruising" when he refused to take the field against India in the series-deciding third Test in Rawalpindi last week.

A MRI on Akhtar after he had hurt his wrist on his follow-through while bowling on the second day of the Test had showed that there was no bruising, according to Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan.

Shaharyar told the BBC World's Hard Talk Pakistan programme on Wednesday that the doctor, who had examined the fast bowler, himself had felt that there was "no bruising, the side was alright and he had an injury to his wrist".

It was not clear from the PCB's chief remarks which "side" of Shoaib was alright but this may have been a reference to reports that the tearaway fast bowler had injured his back on the right side.

In the light of this observation, Shaharyar took exception to Shoaib not taking the field and called for a medical inquiry to look into this "very serious matter".

"We need to have a medical inquiry in order to establish what we see is correct or not. I am not going to condemn anyone especially a senior player like Shoaib. When he says that I have a bad side and I can't bowl, I can't field, (then) I have to take his word at face value," he said.
