Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, whose marketing contract ends this month, is set to sign a deal with Nimbus, the Mumbai-based sports production company.
Though Ganguly will not admit it just yet, sources close to him told rediff.com that he is well disposed towards Nimbus' offer of Rs 600 million (Rs 60 crores) over five years.
The skipper's contract with Percept D'Mark runs out on September 22 after which he will be free to sign on with World Sports Group, Nimbus' marketing arm.
Nimbus is likely to announce its prize catch in Mumbai on Monday, September 22, the sources said.
If the deal goes through, Ganguly will have the second biggest marketing deal in Indian sports history after Sachin Tendulkar's Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crores) contract.
Nimbus is said to be offering Ganguly the money on a guaranteed basis. The contract says he will receive the full amount even if he does not remain captain in the course of the five years.
Ganguly will endorse products for companies Nimbus strikes deals with.
It is not clear how Ganguly will juggle his deal with Nimbus with his existing contracts with Hero Honda and the Sahara group, the main sponsor of the Indian cricket team.
