Allegations of bribery in Indian cricket surfaced on Thursday when a top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India said a cricketer had offered to pay money to two selectors to secure a berth in the India 'A' team which is to play Sri Lanka A in a two-Test series at home later this month.

"The player had offered to pay money to a couple of selectors for a place in the India 'A' team," BCCI joint secretary Prof Ratnakar Shetty said.

However, Shetty refused to divulge either the identity of the player or selectors to whom the offer was made.

Shetty said he would be submitting a report on the issue to BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya so that appropriate action is taken.

"I can assure you that stern action will be taken against the player," Shetty said.
