CRICKET The king of cricket Australian opener Matthew Hayden re-wrote the record books by scoring a world record 380 against hapless Zimbabwe at the WACA ground in Perth in October. The left-hander hit 38 boundaries and 11 sixes in his 437 ball knock. Hayden was given the chance to go for 400 by skipper Steve Waugh but was brilliantly caught by Stuart Carlisle off Trevor Gripper to end his 622-minute stay at the crease. The peanut farmer from Queensland eclipsed Brian Lara's nine-year-old record of 375 against England in Antigua. Hayden offered no apologies for breaking the world record against a weak team like Zimbabwe. "I didn't ask to break the record," he told rediff.com, "I am just happy playing in what is the best team in the world. It is the greatest honour for me to be playing for Australia."
