Punjab bowlers snared two quick wickets to reduce Mumbai to 180 for eight as only 47 minutes of play was possible on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match at Mohali.
Defending champions Mumbai, who were tottering at 152 for six at the end of the first day's play yesterday, could add only 28 runs in the eight overs bowled today but lost the wickets of Nilesh Kulkarni (2) and Vinayak Samant (4) in the bargain.
No play was possible till tea as thick fog engulfed the PCA ground ensuring that there was not enough light for the players to take the field.
All-rounder Robin Morris (64 not out) and Usman Malvi (4 not out) were at the crease when the umpires decided to call it a day.
Medium pacers Gagandeep Singh (4-54) and Amit Uniyal (2-66) took the wickets of Samant and Kulkarni respectively.
Hosts Punjab, who are competing with Railways for the second semifinal berth from the group, desperately require full points from this match to ensure a safe passage in to the knock-out phase.
Mumbai, with 20 points, have already qualified for the last four stage.
